About Andrew

Andrew is a junior Electrical Engineering major. He is an active member of the Innovation House Learning Community and is committed to helping innovative members in the learning communities develop ideas into “maker” projects.  He first became interested in “making” when he began experimenting with Arduino and building circuits in middle school. Andrew has worked on numerous projects since, and he is always happy to help peers with their projects.

Roger Hellard

About Roger

Roger Hellard is a junior majoring in Mathematics and Actuarial Science. He is currently a member of the Leadership Learning Community and Gamma Iota Sigma. He is involved in Model United Nations, the Outing Club, and the Actuarial Foundation’s Math Motivators program. In addition, he serves on the University’s Academic Integrity Hearing Board and is in the Honors Program. His favorite thing in the LCIZ is the laser cutter. In his free time, Roger enjoys running, skiing, and hanging out with friends.

I am a junior, Computer Science and Engineering major. Robotics and tinkering sparked my interest in making. Bringing my ideas to life is always a great learning process, and I love helping others do the same. I have worked on robots, a braille reader, app development, woodworking, and anything that sparks my interest. I am also a member of Engineering Ambassadors, National Society of Black Engineers, and Society of Women Engineers. I'm excited to hear your ideas, and see them come into existence!

Chris Hughes

About Chris

Chris is a junior majoring in Geoscience, with the hopes of applying his degree in finding innovative solutions to some of the world’s most concerning issues including sea-level rise and climate change. He is currently a member of the Innovation House Learning Community. Chris is also a member of the UConn Woodsmen team, a club sport that competes in lumberjack competitions. He also enjoys volunteering his time to continue to be involved with his local Boy Scout troop.

I am a junior double majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology as well as Psychology and am seeking to further my understanding of the engineering field. I love traveling, experiencing new things, and learning! For the LCIZ, I am working on developing a personal project that marries biology and innovation, and am really looking forward to all that I will learn here! Matt Lombardo

About Matt

Matthew Lombardo is a Management and Engineering for Manufacturing student. He was born and raised in Stamford Connecticut. He has a passion for the outdoors especially skiing, rock climbing, and sailing.  In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, drawing, and painting.

Matthew is a co-founder of EpiGo, LLC, a wearable medical technology company that started with an idea that was born in the LCIZ through HackUConn. Currently, he is working as the Chief Technological Officer. They obtained a provisional patent over the summer and are in the late prototyping stage. They are currently working to secure both design and utility patents in this upcoming quarter.

“The LCIZ has given me a place coming up with new ideas and products to better my life and those living around me. I really enjoy 3D Printing and computer-aided design, especially because it bridges the virtual and tactile world together. I love looking at problems in different ways in order to find new and innovative solutions.”

Ryan McGlynn

About Ryan

Ryan is a junior Biomedical Engineer major who hopes to attend medical school after getting his undergraduate degree. He is a major gamer, specifically Pokemon, as well as a Twitch streamer. He plans on working on some cool projects for the LCIZ, like the customized ventilation for the electronics cabinet. Also, the LCIZ is one of Ryan’s favorite places on campus because of its unlimited potential for things to do.

Lily Morenz

Lily Morenz

About Lily

Lily is a junior Animal Science major with an Equine focus.  She is a current member of WiMSE (Women in Math Science & Engineering) Learning Community and also competes regularly as a member of the UConn Western Team.  Lily has a passion for woodworking, textiles/sewing and vinyl cutting/stencil making.  She loves crafting from scratch and creating new things.  One fun fact about Lily is that she is a Second Degree Black Belt in World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) Martial Arts and is a certified instructor!

Lauren is currently studying abroad in Singapore but we look forward to her return in Fall 2019.   Majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Construction Engineering and Management, Lauren hopes to one day work as a transportation engineer or planner. In her free time, Lauren enjoys art, skiing, and running. At UConn, she is a member of Engineers Without Borders, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. In the LCIZ, Lauren most enjoys using the laser and vinyl cutters and tries to incorporate art into all her projects.

About Carly

Carly is a junior studying DMD with a focus in 3D animation. In the future, she hopes to animate movies or work with doctors and engineers to design prosthetics. She is passionate about woodworking and digital design; she has made dining room tables and beds, as well as stickers and posters.  In her free time, Carly enjoys climbing, backpacking, drawing and playing guitar. One of her goals in life is to work with others to inspire passion, creativity and innovation in their own endeavors and projects.
